Vandana Katariya was born and brought up in Roshanabad, Haridwar on 15 April 1992, and as of 2021, she is 29 years old. She spent her early years of life in Haridwar and done her schooling, and graduated from there.
She comes from a middle-class family, where her father Nahar Singh Katariya works as a master technician in BHEL, Haridwar, and teaches wrestling as a hobby in the village.

Vandana Katariya became the regular player for the Indian hockey team ever since she got selected for the senior national team in 2010.
She made her debut in international hockey when she was 15 years old in 2006, and now she is the first woman hockey player from India to score a hat-trick at Olympics. She made 3 goals and helped India to secure a 4-3 against South Africa.
